KEC Parents’ Voice : Junior High, High School, and University Student Classes

Junior High School Class (Level 4/Level 5/Level 6)

This is the fifth year that I have been taking care of my child at KEC once a week along with KEA (English language school childcare). Although she started from zero English, I can feel her growth when I see her smiling when she hears English on TV, or recently when I see her trying to pass the English Proficiency Test and reading English sentences and listening to and understanding English. For those of us from the generation that studied by the cramming method, we are envious and at the same time grateful for the guidance we received at KEC. Every year I am blessed with wonderful teachers, and I am thankful that I am able to face English.

KEC always seems to be one step ahead of the typical English education system in their annual curriculum presentations, starting from memorizing English picture books to now being able to summarize their thoughts and present them openly in front of others, I am always impressed by the way he accomplishes things that would be difficult even for an adult, and I feel comfortable leaving my daughters in his care. I am sure that without KEC, my daughters would not have been able to acquire this level of presentation skills. We are deeply grateful for the enthusiastic guidance of the teachers.

My two daughters have been with us since they were 3 years old, 9 years and 6 years respectively. We joined KEC because we wanted them to feel familiar with and enjoy English. They started attending KEC when they were too young to speak Japanese, and they have been able to enjoy English without thinking of it as “learning” because of KEC’s attractive curriculum and teachers. Both of them were shy and used to run away from the stage when they were little, even when they sang together on stage. However, they completely defied all expectations and performed on stage by themselves, which they started in the first grade. They also looked forward to participating in camps, where they were able to develop not only their English skills but also a great sense of independence. As a parent, I am extremely pleased. My eldest daughter is now a junior high school student and has started “studying” English. She sometimes feels confused between the English at KEC and at school, but she is discovering that the English skills she acquired at KEC and her grammar skills at school are almost connected without her knowing it, and she says, “I didn’t know that! I am making discoveries every day. I really appreciate that they always think of the children and make the lessons fun. I would like to continue to watch their growth while enjoying English with their friendly and kind teachers.

I started attending KEC at the end of 4th grade, a rather late start. Even when I went to visit classes at KEC, it was obvious to me as a layman that my child was not keeping up with the classes. But no matter how many times I asked my child, he would say, “I’ll go. I won’t stop.” He insists “I’ll go. He has been going to KEC for three years. Now, in English class at junior high school, he is praised for his Speaking, “Wasn’t he in the Harry Potter movie? In the EIKEN (English Proficiency Test), she scored high in Reading and Listening. I even won a prize in KEC’s presentation contest, which taught me the joy of expression. I am just grateful for the warm hand extended to me by the KEC staff.
