Yuzuki Dobashi is a cabin attendant on a domestic airline flight.

Yuzuki Dobashi (Infant to 5th grade elementary school student)

I have been working as a cabin attendant on domestic flights since April 2018. As a service staff member, I am working hard to provide hospitality to customers with a smile, and as a security staff member, I am working hard to protect customers during training in case of an emergency situation.

I was under the care of Ms. Hiramatsu at KEC from nursery school to the 5th grade of elementary school. I was a quiet second grader who could not even get ready by myself. I was chosen to represent my school in a reading contest, and I remember how unsure I was at first. However, thanks to the encouragement of my foreign teacher and Ms. Hiramatsu, “You can do it! I was able to place second thanks to the encouragement of my foreign teacher and Ms. Hiramatsu. I think this is how I became accustomed to being in front of people, and I became more cheerful, energetic, and confident in myself, which has led me to where I am today.

I believe it is a way to broaden my horizons. When I studied abroad in Hawaii for a short period of time, I learned that conversing in English means being able to speak not only with Japanese people but also with people of many different nationalities, and being exposed to a variety of values. By looking at things from multiple perspectives instead of just one, we can cultivate an attitude of tolerance and acceptance of others, and also lead to our own personal growth. English is an indispensable tool for me to keep my attitude to keep learning by paying attention to even the smallest conversation.

I like to be close to people, and after working as a flight attendant, I would also like to gain experience in a different form of hospitality. Alternatively, I am interested in teaching English to children.

Even though I did not understand the meaning of English at first, I made it a daily habit to listen to the cassette tapes over and over again at home and hum the enjoyable rhythms. I believe that by repeating this daily while having fun, I subconsciously learned the text of the picture book and acquired beautiful pronunciation. English is something you can only learn if you enjoy it. Even if you are not confident, don’t be afraid to make mistakes and start by saying it out loud! Believe in your teachers and yourself, and go ahead with your dream. If you do so, your dream will come true!

A word from Hiramatsu

Yutsuki was a cute little girl with a small body. She joined the class in the middle of the toddler class, so she was shy at first because of the difference from her peers in other classes, and she was withdrawn and didn’t speak. I think it was thanks to “Step by Step” that she was able to get out of that state. I think it was the “Step by Step” that helped me get out of that situation. When you do, put the date here. She followed these instructions and worked hard. She became a better and better reader and participated in the contest finals. The confidence she developed there became the foundation for the rest of her life. Yutsuki has fulfilled her elementary school dream! She is a wonderful hard worker.
