Keep the English language skills you have developed in International Preschool and living abroad!
The Intensive Class is for elementary school students who have graduated from International Preschool or are returnees from abroad. The class is not for students who have never studied English before, but for students who have a background in learning English, so all the children are happy and active in speaking English from the beginning. We do a warm-up session so that the students can switch from Japanese to English. Students not only sit at their desks and study the textbooks, but also move their bodies, learn phonics, and strengthen their four skills. Students will communicate with both foreign and Japanese teachers in English only, so they will be able to keep up their English skills. Students are often inspired by and help each other, not only from their teachers but also from their classmates.
Professional foreign and Japanese instructors trained in foreign language teaching methods
Classes last a full 120 minutes each week and are taught by a foreign teacher and a Japanese teacher. We create a comfortable learning environment by taking care of children who seem to have difficulty with the lesson or who are having trouble so that the whole class can enjoy the lesson. The native foreign teachers come from a variety of countries, so students can hear firsthand about what kind of culture they have experienced firsthand. In response to this, the children can communicate about Japanese culture in English, thereby deepening mutual understanding of each other’s culture.
Read a lot and write a lot!
We have a library with many picture books, including the Oxford Reading Tree series, available to borrow, and children borrow books they want to read every week. The children look forward to this library time and share information with their classmates, such as “This book was interesting. They are also asked to write down their impressions of the book each week, indicating the “level of interest” with an asterisk (*).
Experience fun seasonal events
In addition to the regular weekly lessons, seasonal events are also held in the lessons. Last year, during Halloween Week, students dressed up in costumes, took pictures, and played Halloween games. We also made crafts to take home. We also have a presentation contest once a year where students present a story telling or short speech from a picture book.
We value communication with parents and guardians.
We communicate closely with parents through e-mails, monthly newsletters, Open Class three times a year, and informal meetings to let them know how their children are doing in class. A Can Do Report, which documents the progress of each child, is given once a year to motivate children by clarifying their goals for the following year.
