Teacher testimonials about working for Education Network and living in Japan
Teaching with Education Network for three years was one of the best experiences and journeys I have ever had. I have always loved traveling and immersing myself in other cultures. Teaching with KEC and KEA allowed me to travel and explore Asia, and of course Japan! Long weekends and long breaks allowed me to travel at my leisure and become apart of the local community.
The support of this small and close knit company was very helpful in all aspects of the transition from Los Angeles, CA to Nagakute, Japan. The support from the office staff and training received from very experienced and thoughtful lead teachers was very warm and welcoming. The best advice a previous teacher gave me was to, "be a hai man!" (A yes man!). Don't say no. Say yes!
Teaching for both KEC and KEA has allowed me to really understand the inner workings of the three programs at Education Network. For KEC I taught at our Nagakute location and traveled to and from school in the Nagoya region. This allowed me to explore and find cool new places to visit or EAT! Of course the children and Japanese pair teachers were always super awesome and on point with the lesson! KEC was a very nice introduction to teaching because everything is given to you and the lesson plans are pretty much planned for you! Coordinating and being flexible with your pair teacher is probably the most crucial and important part of KEC. If you are both on the same page the lesson will go smoothly.
During KEA I had the chance to actually practice what I learned from KEC and apply it to my own student led classroom. It was amazing to have this experience and see the progression of the children everyday with these students. We tailored the days lesson to what the students wanted to do in English within the curriculum. The curriculum included cooking, experiments, sports, board games, crafts, long term projects, and field trips. KEA becomes your family. Again, My only word of advice is to communicate with your co-teacher for success!
All and all this three year experience was fantastic! The people you will meet and befriend are people that will be with you for the rest of your life and become apart of your extended family.
