KEC Intensive Class

What kind of class is an intensive class?

This is an intensive language course for elementary school students, taught by native speakers and Japanese instructors.
Lessons last 120 minutes and are designed to maintain and further develop students’ existing English skills. The objective is to maintain and further develop the English skills that have been developed so far. 2 hours of deliberate work will help students to build their English skills in an intensive manner. Professional instructors will be on hand to guide students from multiple reading activities to creative writing.
This class is for children who have graduated from an international school or have completed Kinder in an English-speaking country. Classes are divided by age and language level.

Intensive Class Lesson Content

Activities such as English group reading, chants, and fast speech will keep the brain active, while training the muscles of the mouth to keep the pronunciation and intonation unique to English.

Using the ‘Spectrum’ series of textbooks, which are also used in American schools, students will increase their vocabulary and improve their reading and writing skills. In reading, students read stories to understand the content. The students will focus on skimming (reading the content) rather than just reading the words.

The goal is for students to experience the pleasure of “reading” by choosing books they want to read and understanding the stories. In addition, students will take periodic assessments to overcome words they cannot read and continue to challenge themselves to read books at a higher level. Students can borrow books from the library each week. Since “reading” is directly related to “speaking” skills, we will continuously encourage and develop your skills.

As with the “Kiyo Sei Tatsu” (beginning, middle, and end) of composition, students will experience the joy of writing while learning the process of writing compositions in English. Students write a draft based on brain storming to generate ideas, then rewrite it several times with more information, and finish it over time to slowly build up their writing skills. In the upper grades, students also write speeches and aim to present them in a TED Talk-like manner.
